Six O'Clock Swatch : OPI Red Lights Ahead... Where?

Today's Swatch: OPI Red Lights Ahead... Where?

This is a clear, bright red, an orange-red, that looks just like the red of traffic lights.

A classic colour guaranteed to catch the eye.

Six O'Clock Swatch - OPI Bubble Bath Nailpolish

Today's swatch is OPI's Bubble Bath. It's a really light pink colour, if your nails are pale it would give a "barely there" sort of effect.
This would be lovely for a french polish.

Review: Madeleine Ritchie Skin Health Creme

I got given a sample of this stuff at Salon Melbourne - it's from a Kiwi skincare brand, and their products seem to mostly contain Manuka Honey related ingredients. This one has "active manuka honey and propolis" and it says on the back that it's been designed for sensitive skin and problems like eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, rashes, acne and dry skin.

I can't speak to it's efficacy against any of that, but I can tell you it smells sweet and faintly of honey, and it sinks into the skin nicely - it manages to feel both rich and light which is nice. I have used it as a night cream for about a week (only got a little sample tube) and it seems to do the trick nicely.

Honey is a great antiseptic and antibacterial - they're even using it in some hospitals now for wound care, which bodes well.

I'm intrigued by this brand, and I will see if I can find some more of their products to try out sometime soon.

Six O'Clock Swatch - OPI Tickle My France-y

 Today's Swatch: OPI Tickle My France-y .

This is a really subtle pinkish beige, the sort of neutral tone that goes with pretty much anything.

Perfect for a job interview or any other time you want to look polished and neat without drawing attention to your fingertips.

Six O'Clock Swatch: OPI Alpine Snow Nailpolish

Today's swatch is OPI Alpine Snow. Whiter than Snow White, this is the elegant alternative to painting your nails with liquid paper (I wasn't the only one who did that while bored in science class as a teenager, surely?)

Apart from being a lovely colour to wear in it's own right, this would also be awesome as a base coat - if you had a glitter polish you wanted to show off, this would be an excellent base for it.

That's today's swatch! See you again tomorrow..

Review: Organix Vanilla Silk Shampoo & Conditioner

Got sent these the other day, and my hair has smelt amazing ever since. They're Organix Vanilla Silk Shampoo and Conditioner. No points for guessing what they smell like!

Now with a brand name of Organix you might think this was an all-natural kind of product, but nope, these contain all the sorts of foaming agents etc you'd expect in a regular shampoo - the vanilla extract is organic, and the packaging is all made from post consumer waste, which is good.

I was happy with these, and the menfolk of the house are really liking them - they are a pleasant scent that is not too flowery. I have found that you don't need much product either, so even though the bottles seem small they do go a long way, it's taken me longer to get through them than I was expecting.

This gets a thumbs up from me!

Aussie Curves: Green

It's not that easy being green... or if you're me, it's not that easy finding that one green dress you own for St Patrick's Day in an ocean of red and black and grey..

But, just in time for the "Green" theme of Aussie Curves, here it is!

This dress is "green" in more way than one. It's second hand, so being reused - that's green. It's made of bamboo fabric, which is a super trendy eco-fabric, very green... and it's green coloured too!

It feels very jersey-like, this fabric, it's super comfortable - dressy enough for work but as comfortable as a nightgown. Everyone needs a few dresses like this in the wardrobe - when you need to look a little bit smart and nicely dressed but you don't have the energy to make a lot of effort.

I posed out in our back yard, amongst the chicken coops - our Urban Homesteading efforts make me feel like a bit of a greenie, too - it seemed appropriate, and with that ghastly vine growing everywhere it's all very green!

If you've got a taste for green things yourself, you might like these - as usual around here all the clothes are available in at least a size 20 and ship to Australia.

OPI The Top Ten Minis - thanks Tick the Box!

I got a lovely surprise the other day - I won a competition run by the good folk over at "Tick The Box" who do fun day-trips and other activities for (mostly) groups of women friends who want to have fun together - I won this:

It's a set of OPI's top ten polishes - ten cute minis that are the "best of the best".

Here's the colours in the set:

All very wearable and all very gorgeous. With this addition to my nail polish collection, I went to my nail polish drawer, and I realised just how many polishes I have, and how few of them I have put on the blog!

To correct this oversight, I'm going to do a quick "Six O'Clock Swatch" post for as many days as I can manage going forward - I'll be starting with these ten shades! I don't have perfectly manicured nails, so I'll swatch on nail cards - this will allow me to add to my collection as well - you win, I win! I also have a lot of eyeshadows and lipsticks that I need to swatch too, so I'll add some of those into the mix as well.  It's going to be swatcharama around here!

A big thanks to Tick the Box for the lovely prize (and sparking off this idea as well!)

Review: McArthur Complete Skincare Cream

If no fuss no bother skincare is your thing, you're going to be interested in this - it's McArthur's Complete Skincare Cream. What I like about this is it's a pawpaw moisturiser, and if you look at the ingredient list, right there, number one, the largest quantity of ingredient in the whole thing - yep, you guessed it, pawpaw. So often with skincare and cosmetics something  has a "hero ingredient" that's large on the label and in the advertising, but only has a really small amount in the actual product.

And this McArthur guy, he seriously loves paw paw.. I mean, just look at his reverent gaze here:

That's a man who's really very serious about his tropical fruits.

The product picture above says "fragrance free" but the one I got sent isn't that version, it has lavender oil in it and smells really nice. It sinks into the skin like a dream and does seem to make a difference - I rubbed it into the back of one hand, idly testing it out, and about an hour later, I could feel a distinct difference between the hand I had moisturised and the one that I hadn't.

This is just the sort of thing you'd want to keep on your desk in the winter time, rub it into your hands, elbows and knees when you remember and it'd make a nice difference over time, I think.  This one has earned a spot in my regular roster of moisturisers. I have a few other paw paw products in my "to review" pile at the moment, so you're going to see some more of them in the next couple of weeks. It's the ingredient of the hour, it seems!

What about you? Do you like paw paw? As much as Mr McArthur does??

Review: Glasshouse Fragrances Bora Bora Candle & Body Bar

I got a gorgeous surprise in the mail the other day - a candle and body bar from Glasshouse Fragrances, in the "Bora Bora" scent.

These are scented with Cilantro & Orange Zest, a deliciously spicy and heady combination. The smell of this candle is super strong, I had it burning in my bedroom for about 10 minutes or so and the whole room smelt like heaven.

There's something gloriously romantic about candles in the bedroom, and even at the pricier end of things like these they really are a very reasonable indulgence when taken on a cost-per-use basis... it really does feel decadent and lovely to have one of these scenting the room.

I also got the "body bar" which is a lovely fine milled soap.. it's nice to use it in the shower  before bed, and then you have the scent from both the soap and the candle working in tandem.. I really can't be held responsible for what you might get up to with your head swimming in these lovely smells..

I'm not sure that these are QUITE as nice as a getaway to a tropical paradise would be, but they'll certainly do for now until plane tickets magically appear.. I am delighted to add this little touch of indulgence to my routine.
