Aussie Curves: Celebration (inc Giveaway!)

So, it's been a year of the Aussie Curves challenges, and to mark the start of a new year of themes we've started with "Celebration". I think there's a lot to celebrate about Aussie Curves - it's done a lot of good for a lot of women and I have really enjoyed participating in it. More than just a blog-hop, it's a community - a family, even, of awesome fat women.  I'm pleased to be a part of it.

So.. celebration! I could have frocked up in a party dress, but I thought instead I'd show off something I wear out for a night on the town instead.  Lots of black pleather and a fair amount of sass - yep, that's me.

The jacket is from Autograph, picked up in the recent sale - it has pleather sleeves and gold zips at the front and at the cuffs - I am always happy when I find a black leather piece with gold instead of silver - because I don't really wear silver jewellery I feel it all tones in better.

The top was a gift from the brilliant designer Victor Alexandre - like many of his pieces it's got a deceptive simplicity to it - just a peplum top, but it's cut beautifully, and the fabric choice is perfect. I find it emphasises and skims just where I want it to and the length of both the sleeves and the peplum is just right for me. I love the royal purple colour of it too.

Over that my Mercy Belt from 17 Sundays, a staple of my wardrobe that adds a bit of edge and interest to any outfit.

The pleather panel skirt is from Asos, I got it second hand - it has great panels of ponte and pleather, I really love how it looks from behind! It's stretchy and slinky and it feels sexy to wear.

The boots are from Autograph, another sale buy that have been seen on this blog many times, they are hardly off my feel lately!

I might have saved the best for last - peeping out between the boots and the skirt you can see a pair of opaque stockings - no big deal you might think but these aren't just any stockings - oh, no, they are the small miracles produced by Sonsee. Sonsee is a brand spanking new hosiery brand that has gone to the trouble of finding an Italian manufacturer for really properly plus sized stockings. None of that nasty extra panel stuff going on, these are made on plus sized blocks with really high grade materials. They don't roll or sag or ride up or down.. when you are wearing them it's really easy to forget they are there at all. I think there's no higher praise for stockings than that. I have tried an awful lot of different stockings over the years, and I can say these are the best I have ever worn. They only run about $20-$25 a pair too - and they come in a range of gorgeous colours as well as the obligatory black. Their sizing accommodates from a size 14 to a 28 - and I love that they have used a range of models encompassing those sizes on their site.  A great boon to us all and a company I think we should support with our dollars!

I have been given some extra pairs of these, in all the sizes, so if you comment on this post and say what size you are ( Gorgeous (14-16); Flawless (18-20); Stunning (22-24) or Radiant (26-28) ), give me your email address and  tell me what you've got to celebrate at the moment, and I'll pick one lucky winner of each size. I'll leave it open for a week till 14th August and announce winners then. If you don't get back to me within 24 hrs then I'll pass your prize on to someone else.

That's worth celebrating, don't you think?

  2. YAY STOCKINGS! I've always loved them, always had trouble fitting them because even if they had enough stretch to fit around my bum, they can only stretch out OR up at any given time so I would have the crotch panel between my knees. I'm guessing I would fit a Stunning in these.

At the moment I am celebrating opportunity. I've recently stumbled upon a series of choices I need to make regarding work, life and friends, any and all of which could lead to joy and success in the long run and should provide interest and fun in the short term. Now I just need to take the plunge!

  6. I love love love this outfit! That peplum top is such a glorious colour, and that belt is to die for!

This week I'm celebrating my blog's 1st birthday (on Sunday), as well as unseasonably warm sunny weather and the beginnings of a book I'm working on.

The Sonsee stockings look gorgeous, would love to win them as I've had a terrible time trying to find stockings that fit/stay up. I think Radiant would fit me best. thisismeagankerr@gmail.com

I adore this outfit and especially the peplum (how cool is it that Peplum just works on ALL body types) I would be stoked to win a pair of the Radiant stockings - I just moved to Melbourne and my legs get so cold! I have yet to find a good pair of stockings that just fit and are comfortable! - yashak@gmail.com
